Grant – carbon reduction audit

Cheltenham Borough Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and committed to becoming a net zero council and borough by 2030. This ambitious target cannot be achieved without the support of residents, businesses, and other organisations within the borough.

Following the success of the CheltenhamZero Business Fund, we are delighted to announce the CheltenhamZero Carbon reduction audit fund. This fund will support businesses on their carbon reduction journey by providing specific tailored guidance on the most efficient and effective steps businesses can take to achieve net zero, reduce costs and future proof their businesses.

This project is part funded by UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and will be delivered by Severn Wye Energy Agency.

An Energy Efficiency Study and Recommendations Report will provide a detailed assessment of current energy use and offers tailored solutions to reduce consumption and carbon emissions. A Business Energy Specialist will conduct an on-site survey, including historical energy analysis, discussions with management, and a full site inspection covering heating, lighting, insulation, and renewable energy opportunities. The final report categorises recommendations into no-cost, low-cost, and capital investment measures, highlighting potential grant funding where available. This independent advice comes with no obligation, and additional research can be provided upon request.

This grant offer covers 80% of the total cost, and the organisation applying would contribute 20% match funding (invoiced to Severn Wye Energy Agency). This funding is available on a first come first serve basis.

The Cheltenham Zero Business Fund will be launched in July 2025, offering grants of up to £5,000 to local businesses for energy efficiency projects. Grants will be awarded for capital projects delivering energy efficiency improvements and carbon reduction. Part of the criteria to apply for these grants will include a carbon reduction plan, that will inform which energy efficiency projects are best suited for an organisation.
