When
Cheltenham has ambitious targets for Net Zero both council and borough wide. Organisations need to be starting their journey to Net Zero as soon as possible to ensure we can achieve these targets
How
How will Cheltenham Zero help you achieve this? Through awareness, support and driving change across sectors and industries. Working in a tiered way to ensure a comprehensive offering for Micro businesses, SMEs and Enterpises, across a range of impact areas. The main focus will be on Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from energy and transportation as these are the biggest contributors to climate change and where we need to focus our energy to achieve Net Zero.
Why
The science shows clearly that in order to avert the worst impacts of climate change and preserve a livable planet, global temperature increase needs to be limited to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. We must reach net zero carbon emissions globally by 2050 to limit global warming to manageable levels. This means rapidly reducing the emissions being released into the Earth’s atmosphere and removing greenhouse gases to avoid dangerous climate change
